Biarritz, France

A day trip to Biarritz, France. Kalli and I woke up at 9 this morning and started our morning ritual of buying croissants, fruit and water. Normally the morning starts at 11 but we planned to do a road trip so we decided to get a jump on the day. After our morning coffee and croissants,  we drove 40 kilometers over the Spain/France border back to France to visit Biarritz. Known throughout the surfing world as one of the places to experience the big wave, it did not disappoint. I imagine this used to be a small surf town inhabited by the surfing culture but it has morphed in to a high-end coastal town, similar to a spot you would find in the South of France. The experience was cool but it made me a little sad to see the hi-end hotels, Casinos, and restaurants.

The weather wasfair but we spent the day on the beach going in and out of the water, playing soccer, and watching the surf. The waves were about 4 feet overhead and nasty. The lifeguards did an amazing job keeping the tourist in a manageable area of water otherwise it would be absolute chaos. Isabel and Kalli were oblivious to the danger the water posed and had a blast moving in and out of the water.
As we were leaving the beach we took a wrong turn and ended up on the North side of town. We saw the most spectacular display of waves and power. WOW - I grew up on the beach and was totally blown away.

It was nice to go back to France but we were happy to head back to our apartment in Spain. When we got back Eli and I headed out for water and fruit. Then it was cocktail hour, beers and Rioja!!! At 8 we headed to old town for tapas.

This is our Car!!!
